Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Yale Alumni in Technology of 2021. Yale University was founded in 1701, and since then has remained dedicated to its mission to expand and share knowledge, inspire innovation, and preserve cultural and scientific information for future generations. This year’s awardees have taken that mission to heart by producing cutting-edge technology solutions that advance business and society. They have consistently pushed boundaries, drawing on an ingenuity, which their alma mater helped them develop. Across key areas such as information management, software development, artificial intelligence, social media, eCommerce, financial services, biotechnology, and more, these leaders demonstrate impressive boldness in their pursuits.
The alumni represented on this year’s awards list were selected not only for their ability to produce innovative technologies, but also for their ability to apply their expertise to better their communities and the world at large. Whether they are volunteering with non-profit organizations, advising other startups, serving in industry organizations, or participating in government initiatives, Yale’s top alumni are demonstrating their commitment to social impact and to their alma mater’s values. 1. Emmett Shear
Twitch
Emmett Shear is the CEO of Twitch, which he founded in 2011. Twitch is a one-of-a-kind collision of subcultures, games, communities, and streamers co-creating content around their interests.
Emmett is currently a Part-time Partner at Y Combinator, advising startups on everything from fundraising strategy to technology. He was previously the Founder and CEO of Justin.TV Inc. and Founder of Kiko Software Inc. Emmett earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Yale University.
2. Michael Walsh
LexisNexis
Michael Walsh is the CEO of LexisNexis and was previously President and CEO of the LexisNexis U.S. Legal Markets. He first joined the company in 2003 as Senior Vice President for Global Strategy and Business Development. LexisNexis is the leading provider of legal, government, business, and high-tech information sources.
Before joining LexisNexis, Michael was Director of Strategic Business Development at Home Depot and Vice President of Strategy at FindLaw. He was Co-Founder of Infirmation.com and a Consultant and Project Leader with the Boston Consulting Group. Michael graduated from Harvard Law School with a JD and from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in History and Political Science.
3. Matt Wallach
Veeva Systems Inc.
Matt Wallach began his professional career over 27 years ago. He was President of Veeva Systems, which he co-founded, from 2007–2019, and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Veeva Systems is a leader in cloud-based software for the global life sciences industry, committed to innovation, product excellence, and customer success.
Matt began his career in1994 as a lead consultant at Booz & Company. From there, he went on to Siebel Systems as General Manager of Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, before eventually rising to Chief Marketing Officer at Health Market Science, his most recent position before founding Veeva Systems. A former varsity soccer player, he is one of the owners of the Philadelphia Union soccer club. Matt graduated from Harvard Business School with an MBA and from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Economics.
4. Ben Silbermann
Pinterest
Ben Silbermann is the CEO of Pinterest, which he co-founded in 2009. Pinterest is an image sharing and social media service that allows users to save and discover information and ideas, with the mission of bringing everyone the inspiration to create a life they love.
Previously, Ben was a Product Specialist at Google and a Consultant at CEB (now Gartner). Ben earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Yale University.
5. Karl Magnus Olsson
Careem
Magnus Olsson is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Careem. Careem is the leading ride-hailing app in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and Pakistan.
Before founding Careem, Magnus was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company and Founder and CEO at Olsson Solutions AB, an IT consulting firm. Earlier in his career, he worked with IMS Data as an IT Consultant. Karl graduated from Lund University in Sweden with an MS in Computer Science and Engineering. While working on his degree, he also studied at Yale University, Harvard University, and the Sorbonne.
6. Tarek Sherif
Dassault Systèmes
Tarek Sherif is the co-founder and CEO of Medidata Solutions, a Dassault Systèmes company. He was named and Chairman of the Life Sciences Sector Board of Dassault Systèmes in 2020. Medidata is the global leader in collecting and managing clinical trial data and supports trials in more than 120 countries, while defining the vertical cloud company business model.
Before founding Medidata, he managed equity funds focused on public and private technology and life sciences companies, as well as holding various positions in finance. He serves on the Board of Students on Ice and the Musculoskeletal Advisory Board at NYU Langone Medical Center. Tarek graduated from Columbia Business School with an MBA and from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Economics.
7. Eric Friedman
Fitbit, Inc.
Eric Friedman is the Co-Founder and CTO of Fitbit Inc. Fitbit created an entire industry around wearable technology with software and services to help people transform their lives for the better, from small milestones to massive transformations.
Before founding Fitbit, Eric was an Engineer Manager at CNET Networks and a Co-Founder at Wind-Up Labs before it was acquired by CNET. He began his career at Epesi Technologies as a Software Engineer. Eric received both a master’s degree and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Yale University.
8. Jonathan Swanson
Thumbtack
Jonathan Swanson is Executive Chairman of Thumbtack, which he co-founded with Sander Daniels. Thumbtack is an online marketplace that connects millions of people with local professionals for their projects.
Before founding Thumbtack, Jonathan was a White House staffer working in the West Wing on financial market policy. While in college, he co-founded and was National Director of S4, a nonprofit aimed at encouraging college students to advocate for Social Security reform. Jonathan graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Ethics, Politics, and Economics.
9. Sander Daniels
Thumbtack
Sander Daniels is the creator of Thumbtack, an online marketplace that connects millions of people with local professionals for their projects, which he co-founded with Jonathan Swanson. Originally the company’s sole customer service agent, he now focuses on building the company’s culture, values, and team.
Sander was previously an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell and before that a Summer Associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Sander received a JD from Yale Law School and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering and International Studies from Yale University.
10. Larry Berger
Amplify
Larry Berger is the Chief Executive Officer of Amplify, which he co-founded in 2000 under the name Wireless Generation. He has also served as President of Amplify Learning, one of Amplify’s many subprograms. Amplify is an educational curriculum and assessment company whose products and services provide assessment and analytics for data-driven instruction and next-generation digital curriculum based on the Common Core State Standards.
Previously, Larry was a White House Fellow working on educational technology at NASA. He serves on the Boards of the Academy of American Poets, Lapham’s Quarterly, the Institute for Sustained Attention, and Touch Press. Larry graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University.
11. Jeff Cripe
Cargo
Jeff Cripe is the CEO of Cargo, which he founded in 2016. Cargo is the leading provider of in-car goods and services for the rideshare economy.
Previously, Jeff was an Ecommerce Project Manager at Christie’s before becoming Manager of eCommerce Partnerships and Business Development. He began his career as a Brand Relationship Manager at Birchbox. Jeff serves as an Advisor for a number of start-ups, including Tortoise, SiteRx, and Story Ventures. Jeff earned an undergraduate degree in Humanities from Yale University.
12. Josh Hoffman
Zymergen
Josh Hoffman is the CEO and Co-Founder of Zymergen. Zymergen is a biotechnology company that specializes in machine learning, big data, and artificial intelligence.
Josh first got his start as an Associate Principal at McKinsey & Co before becoming Director at Lloyds TSB and Managing Director at Rothschild. He was a Founding Partner at Norcob Capital, his most recent position before co-founding Zymergen. Josh graduated from Yale University with an MA in International Relations and an MPPM in Management. He received his undergraduate degree in Social Science from the University of California, Berkele.
13. Ted Bailey
Dataminr
Ted Bailey is the CEO of Dataminr, which he founded in 2009. Dataminr puts real-time AI and public data to work for its clients, generating relevant and actionable alerts for global corporations, public sector agencies, newsrooms, and NGOs.
Ted has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Tech Pioneer, a Business Insider’s 40 under 40 Tech Entrepreneur, a Crain’s 40 under 40 honoree, and was named to the New York City & State Tech Power 50. Ted earned an undergraduate degree in American Studies from Yale University.
14. Paul Gu
Upstart
Paul Gu is the Co-Founder and Head of Product of Upstart, a leading AI lending platform partnering with banks to expand borrowers’ access to affordable credit. Upstart is the first lender to underwrite borrowers based on financial potential rather than their financial history.
Paul studied Economics and Computer Science at Yale University before dropping out to pursue entrepreneurship in the Thiel Fellowship’s 20 Under 20 Program. Since founding Upstart, he has been named on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 lists.
15. Michal Tsur
Kaltura, Inc.
Michal Tsur is the President of Kaltura, Inc., which she co-founded in 2006. Kaltura’s products are used by thousands of global enterprises, media companies, service providers, and educational institutions, engaging hundreds of millions of viewers at home, at work, and at school.
Previously, Michal was a Co-Founder and Vice President at Cyota, a cybersecurity company later acquired by RSA Security. Michal earned a PhD from New York University and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University.
16. Noah Glass
Olo
Noah Glass began his professional career over 18 years ago and is the Founder and CEO of Olo. Olo is the on-demand interface for the restaurant industry, powering digital ordering and delivery for an exclusive network of restaurant brands.
Noah first got his start in 2003 as an International Expansion Manager at Endeavor Global Inc. From there, he went on to National Retail Federation as a Chairman of Self Service Order Interface, his most recent position before joining Olo. Noah graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.
17. Andrew Myers
RippleMatch
Andrew Myers is the CEO of RippleMatch, which he co-founded in 2016. RippleMatch is a tech-based startup that uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to match college students from underrepresented racial, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds to career opportunities across nearly 100 companies, including Amazon, eBay, and Samsung. Andrew studied History and Political Science at Yale University before dropping out to co-found RippleMatch, which was originally launched out of his dorm room.
18. Seth Sternberg
Honor
Seth Sternberg is the CEO of Honor, which he co-founded in 2014. Honor is a home-care technology company that partners with local agencies to provide reliable, high-quality in-home care to allow older adults to remain in their own homes as long as possible.
Previously, Seth was a Product Management Director at Google after it acquired Meebo, where he had been CEO and Co-Founder. Earlier in his career, he worked with IBM as an M&A Lead in Corporate Development. Seth studied Political Science and International Relations at Yale University.
19. Max Rhodes
Faire
Max Rhodes is the CEO of Faire, which he co-founded in 2016. Faire is a wholesale marketplace that empowers retailers to discover and try thousands of items risk-free.
Previously, Max worked at Square as a Business Analyst, becoming a Product Manager for Square Capital and then Square Cash, rising to Director of Consumer Product for Caviar after its acquisition by Square. He previously worked as an Associate Consultant at Bain and Company. Max earned an undergraduate degree in History from Yale University.
20. Joel Spolsky
Stack Overflow
Joel Spolsky is the Chairman of Stack Overflow, which he co-founded in 2008, and served as CEO until 2019. Stack Overflow is the largest, most trusted online community for developers to learn, share their knowledge, and build their careers.
Joel has also been Chairman and Co-Founder of Glitch (previously Fog Creek Software) since 2000; while there he was also Chairman and Co-Founder of Trello, which was acquired by Atlassian. Before that, he was a Software Team Lead at Juno. Earlier in his career, he worked with Microsoft as a Program Manager. Joel graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
21. David Rosenblatt

David Rosenblatt is the CEO of 1stDibs.com, which he joined in 2011. 1stdibs.com is the world’s leading marketplace for extraordinary design and the people who are passionate about it.
Previously, David was CEO of DoubleClick and President of Display Advertising for Google. He is currently an Advisor at Carmel Ventures and serves as a Board Member of Twitter, IAC, and Farfetch. David earned an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies from Yale University.
22. Wendi Murdoch
Artsy
Wendi Murdoch is the Co-Founder of Artsy. Artsy is used by art lovers and collectors to discover, learn about, and buy art.
Before co-founding Artsy, Wendi was an advisor for MySpace’s China operating division. She began her career at Star TV in Hong Kong, quickly rising from intern to vice president. Wendi is a film producer and has invested in start-ups such as Snapchat, Uber, and Warby Parker. Wendi earned an MBA from Yale University and an undergraduate degree in Economics from California State University at Northridge.
23. Bay Gross
Cityblock Health
Bay Gross is a co-founder at Cityblock Health, the multi-billion dollar healthcare and technology startup based out of Brooklyn and dedicated to underserved Medicaid populations. Cityblock provides home-based and tele- primary care alongside comprehensive behavioral health support, substance use counseling, specialist care coordination, benefits coordination, and medication management.
The business model partners with state governments and focuses on serving the most medically complex and socially vulnerable sub-populations in any given metropolitan area. Prior to founding Cityblock, Bay worked in technology investing and at Google in the Product organization. Bay earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Yale University.
24. Jonathan Rothberg
AI Therapeutics
Jonathan Rothberg began his professional career over 28 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and Chairman of AI Therapeutics, which he founded in 2013 as LAM Therapeutics. AI Therapeutics’s mission is to advance the clinical development of new therapies to treat Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and other diseases. AI Therapeutics is pioneering deep learning-based AI to outsmart cancer and rare diseases.
A scientist and entrepreneur, Jonathan first got his start in 1993 as Founder, Chairman, and CEO of CuraGen Corporation. While on paternity leave from CuraGen, he founded 454 Life Sciences as CEO, CTO, and Chairman. Jonathan has also been Founder and CEO of Clarifi, RainDance Technologies, Ion Torrent by Life Technologies, Butterfly Network, and others. In 2016, he was awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation by President Barack Obama. Jonathan graduated from Yale University with a PhD in Molecular Biology and from Carnegie Mellon University with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
25. Adrián Steckel

Adrián Steckel is the CEO of OneWeb. OneWeb is a global satellite-based communications company on a mission to connect everyone, providing high-speed, low-latency connectivity for governments, businesses, and communities around the world. Adrian has over 29 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
Prior to joining OneWeb, Adrián was CEO at Grupo Salinas Telecom. Before that, he was CEO of Iusacell and CEO and Founder of Unefón, both mobile carrier companies in Mexico which were later purchased by AT&T. Earlier in his career he was CFO of TV Azteca. Adrián graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in History.
26. Aleksandr Yampolskiy
SecurityScorecard
Aleksandr Yampolskiy is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SecurityScorecard. SecurityScorecard is the leading cybersecurity platform used for predicting and remediating potential security risks.
Aleksandr first got his start in 2006 as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Corporation. From there, he went on to Goldman Sachs and Gilt Groupe, before eventually becoming CTO at Cinchcast, his most recent position prior to founding SecurityScorecard. Aleksandr received a PhD in Cryptography from Yale University, as well as an MS and MPhil, and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from New York University.
27. Kamil Bajda-Pawlikowski

Kamil Bajda-Pawlikowski is the Co-Founder and CTO of Starburst. Starburst is a data access and analytics company, helping companies quickly unlock the value of their data by making it easy to access.
Before founding Starburst, Kamil was Co-Founder and Chief Software Architect at Hadapt. After its acquisition by Teradata and re-branding as Hadoop, he was Hadoop’s Chief Architect of the Teradata Center. Earlier in his career, he worked with Sabre Holdings as a Software Developer. Kamil received an MS and MPhil from Yale University in Computer Science and an MSc in Computer Science from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.

Tom Lehman is the Co-Founder and CEO of Genius. Genius is an online media platform that brings music intelligence to the masses. Powered by its community, in-house creative team, and the artists themselves, Genius provides music knowledge to over 100 million people each month on Genius.com.
Tom was an engineer at D. E. Shaw & Co. before leaving to found Genius. Tom graduated from Yale University with a dual degree in Mathematics and Philosophy, and Ethics, Politics, and Economics.

Brad Hargreaves is the Founder and CEO of Common. Common is the preferred choice for both residents looking for a stress-free and all-inclusive living environment from a trusted brand, and for real estate owners seeking reliable, above-market returns.
Before founding Common, Brad was a Venture Partner at Maveron and a Co-Founder of General Assembly. Brad graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Economics.
30. Jiang Chen

Jiang Chen began his professional career over 15 years ago and is the Founder and Vice President of Machine Learning at Moveworks. Moveworks is a cloud-based AI platform purpose-built for large enterprises that solves one, big, frustrating problem: Resolving employees’ IT support issues.
Jiang first got his start in 2006 as an Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University. From there, he went on to Yahoo!, before eventually rising to Staff Software Engineer at Google and Software Engineer and Tech Lead at Airbnb, his most recent position before founding Moveworks. Jiang graduated from Yale University with a PhD in Computer Science and from Tsinghua University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
31. Aaron Feuer
Panorama Education
Aaron Feuer is the Co-Founder and CEO of Panorama Education. Panorama Education partners with K-12 schools and districts across the country to collect and analyze data about social-emotional learning, school climate, family engagement, and more.
Aaron has spent his entire professional career at Panorama Education. While in school, he was a Tour Guide at Yale University, an Intern for the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Head Page for the U.S. Senate. Aaron graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.
32. Matthew Chaiken
Blink Health
Matthew Chaiken is Chief Product Officer of Blink Health, which he co-founded in 2014. Blink is the first company to allow patients to purchase their medications online and pick them up at their local pharmacy, using technology to eliminate expensive co-pays and achieve affordable prices on prescription medications.
Previously Matthew was an Analyst at Marble Arch Investments, LP, an Analyst at Merchants’ Gate Capital, and an Investment Banker for Citigroup. Matthew earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from Yale University.
33. Arun Gupta
Grailed
Arun Gupta is the CEO of Grailed, which he co-founded in 2013. Grailed is the first curated peer-to-peer e-commerce marketplace for high-end second-hand menswear.
Arun coded the initial Grailed website himself shortly after graduating from college. While in school, he was CEO and co-founder of Perfect Third Inc., a consumer electronics company. They received seed funding from Y Combinator to launch their first product, the WakeMate. Arun earned an undergraduate degree in Physics from Yale University.
34. April Koh
Spring Health
April Koh is the CEO of Spring Health, which she co-founded with Adam Chekroud. Spring Health provides employers with a comprehensive and effective solution for employee mental well-being and is the only clinically validated solution proven to be more effective than traditional mental healthcare.
Before founding Spring Health, April worked in Product Management at Shazam and before that was Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Spylight. April graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Computer Science.
35. Adam Chekroud
Spring Health
Adam Chekroud is the Chief Product Officer of Spring Health, which he co-founded with April Koh. Spring Health is a comprehensive mental health benefit for employers that helps employees understand their mental health issues and connect with best-in-class providers to get the right treatment at the right time.
Adam received a PhD in Psychology from Yale University and an MsC in Neuroscience and BA in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University.
36. Ryan Boyko

Ryan Boyko is the CEO and Founder of Embark Veterinary. Embark offers the most comprehensive and accurate dog DNA test on the market.
Before founding Embark, Ryan was a Researcher for Cornell University’s Cornell Village Dog Diversity Project and before that a Specialist and Data Analyst/Software Engineer at Oliver Wyman. Ryan graduated from the Yale School of Public Health with an MPhil in Epidemiology of Microbial Disease, from UC Davis with an MS in Ecology, and from Harvard University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.
37. Sean Mehra

Sean Mehra is the Chief Operating Officer of HealthTap, which he co-founded in 2011. He served as Chief Product Officer until 2018 and Chief Strategy Officer until 2020. HealthTap makes affordable virtual healthcare accessible to everyone — offering immediate, trusted information from real doctors at the first moment of concern, triaging them, and treating them with virtual doctor visits with wait times of one minute or less — for all ages across all specialties.
Previously, Sean was Founder and Chief Executive Officer at PayoutHub and before that Founder and Chief Operating Officer at GXStudios. Sean earned an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University.
38. Barrie Seidenberg
Notonthehighstreet
Barrie Seidenberg is the former CEO and Advisor of notonthehighstreet. Notonthehighstreet is a curated online marketplace that enables consumers to browse through and purchase items from more than 5,000 of the U.K.’s best small creative businesses.
Before joining notonthehighstreet, Barrie was CEO of Viator and served as a member of the TripAdvisor senior management team since the company’s acquisition in 2014. Earlier in her career, she was Chief Marketing Officer at Preview Travel and held senior-level positions at American Express and Williams-Sonoma. Barrie received an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Yale University.
39. Alexandra Cavoulacos
The Muse
Alexandra Cavoulacos is President of The Muse, which she co-founded in 2011 as COO. The Muse helps people navigate their entire career journey, offering expert advice alongside an engaging job search experience, and helping companies recruit top talent from a diverse pool of qualified candidates.
Alexandra is co-author of The New Rules of Work: The Modern Playbook for Navigating Your Career. Before founding The Muse, she was Manager of Professional Development at McKinsey & Company, where she had previously been a Senior Associate and Business Analyst. Alexandra earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Yale University.
40. Bill Bellissimo
CrunchTime
Bill Bellissimo is the President of CrunchTime Information Systems, which he founded in 1995. CrunchTime is the leading operations platform for the world's best restaurants and foodservice companies.
Before founding CrunchTime, Bill was the President of a large restaurant chain in the northeastern United States. Before working in the food services industry, Bill was a banker on Wall Street. Bill graduated from Yale University with an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science.
41. Chad Rigetti
Rigetti Quantum Computing
Chad Rigetti is the Founder and CEO of Rigetti Quantum Computing. Rigetti Computing is a full-stack quantum computing company that designs and manufactures integrated circuits.
Chad first got his start in 2008 as Vice President of Business Development at Intrade. From there, he went on to IBM as a Research Staff Member in the quantum computing group before leaving to found Rigetti Quantum Computing. Chad graduated from Yale University with a PhD in Applied Physics and from the University of Regina with an undergraduate degree in Physics.
42. David Friend
Wasabi Technologies
David Friend began his professional career over 16 years ago. He is the President, Co-Founder, and CEO of Wasabi Technologies. Wasabi, named after the hot Japanese horseradish, is a cloud storage provider offering a service called Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage. Hot storage is fast to write, low-cost, and reliable.
Before founding Wasabi, David was Co-Founder and CEO of Carbonite, which was later acquired by OpenText. A self-named “serial entrepreneur,” David has co-founded more than seven companies. David studied Electrical Engineering at Princeton University Graduate School of Engineering and received undergraduate degrees in Engineering and Music Composition from Yale University.
43. Lisa Marrone
Revel
Lisa Marrone is the CEO and Co-Founder of Revel Gatherings. Revel is a new community for women over 50 to host and attend small, local gatherings on topics of their choice.
Before founding Revel, Lisa was a Principal at August Capital and a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company. While in graduate school she was a Summer Fellow at the Rock Center for Entrepreneurship, where she served as Director of Strategic Marketing at Lyndra. Lisa received an MBA from Harvard Business School, a JD from Harvard Law School, and an undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics from Yale University.
44. Marc Cenedella
Ladders
Marc Cenedella is the Founder and CEO of Ladders, the leading source for professional career news and advice. Ladders builds data-driven tools, marketplaces, news, and entertainment products for members of the $100k+ job market, and the companies, recruiters, and advertisers that want to reach them.
