Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Dartmouth Alumni in Technology of 2021. Founded in 1769 and located in Hanover, New Hampshire, Dartmouth College has produced many prominent alumni, including 170 members of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, 24 U.S. governors, 10 billionaires, 8 U.S. Cabinet secretaries, 3 Nobel Prize laureates, 2 U.S. Supreme Court justices, and a U.S. vice president. The college, whose mission is to educate the most promising students and prepare them for a lifetime of learning and of responsible leadership, has been doing just that as exemplified by this year’s awardees.

Dartmouth alumni are having a profound impact on various areas of technology. They lead companies like New Relic, KAYAK, Determined AI, SeatGeek, and Wickr and are changing the way businesses operate and consumers live. Some awardees have had decades of experience thriving in the tech field while others are a bit earlier in their careers and have gained success rather quickly through their start-ups. These accomplished individuals have been working diligently to create new technologies or further develop existing ones in turn paving the way for a brighter future. 1. Naval Ravikant
Hit Forge

Naval Ravikant is the co-founder, chairman and former CEO of AngelList. AngelList is a U.S. website for startups, angel investors, and job-seekers looking to work at startups. Founded in 2010, it started as an online introduction board for tech startups that needed seed funding.  He is also the Managing Partner of Hit Forge, a fund for investing in early-stage social media companies.

Earlier in his career Ravikant was a Venture Partner at August Capital and before that a Founder and CEO at Epinions. He earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Dartmouth College.

 

2. Tom Ryan
Pluto TV

Tom Ryan is the CEO & Co-Founder of Pluto TV, a ViacomCBS company that is the leading free streaming television service in America. Ryan has over 25 years in the entertainment industry. He began his career in 1996.

Before joining Pluto TV, Ryan was a CEO at Threadless and before that, a Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Development at EMI Music. Earlier in his career he worked with Cductive as a Co-Founder and Chief Music Officer. Ryan graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Government. Later he earned an MBA in Entrepreneurship from INSEAD.

 

3. Dave Girouard
Upstart

Dave Girouard began his professional career over 28 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Upstart, a leading AI lending platform designed to improve access to affordable credit while reducing risks and costs. Girouard first got his start in 1993 as a Senior Associate at Booz Allen & Hamilton. From there, he went on to Apple, before eventually rising to President of Enterprise at Google, his most recent position prior to joining Upstart.

Girouard graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Engineering Science and in Computer Engineering and later earned an MBA from the University of Michigan.

 

4. Jeremiah Daly
Elephant

Jeremiah Daly is the Founder and General Partner of Elephant which he joined in 2015. Elephant is a venture capital firm focused on the enterprise software, consumer internet and mobile markets.

Previously, Daly was a Partner at Highland Capital Partners and before that a Principal at Accel Partners. Earlier in his career he worked with Silicon Valley Bank as an Analyst. Daly earned an undergraduate degree in Government from Dartmouth College.

 

5. Jason Green
Emergence Capital

Jason Green is the Founder and General Partner of Emergence Capital. Emergence Capital invests in people who change the way the world works and invests in companies collectively worth $100B+, including Salesforce, Veeva, Box, Yammer, and Zoom. Green has over 24 years in the venture capital and private equity industry. He began his career in 1997.

Before joining Emergence Capital, Green was a General Partner at US Venture Partners. Green graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Economics and from Harvard Business School with an MBA.

 

6. Matt Oppenheimer
Remitly

Matt Oppenheimer began his professional career over 16 years ago. Today, he is the Co-Founder and CEO of Remitly. Remitly is on a mission to transform the lives of immigrants and their families through digital channels

Oppenheimer first got his start in 2005 as a Senior Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates. From there, he went on to Barclays Corporate, before eventually rising to Head of Mobile and Internet Banking Initiatives at Barclays Kenya, his most recent position prior to joining Remitly. Oppenheimer graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and later from Harvard Business School with an MBA.

 

7. Josh Stein
Threshold Ventures

Josh Stein is the Partner of Threshold Ventures. He first joined the company in 2004. Threshold Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm that partners with exceptional entrepreneurs building innovative consumer, enterprise and healthcare technology companies on the threshold of explosive growth.

Previously, Stein was VP of Account Management at Telephia and before that Chief Strategy Officer and Co-Founder at ViaFone. Stein earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.

 

8. Riley Ennis
Freenome

Riley Ennis is the Co-Founder and COO of Freenome. Ennis has over 8 years in the biotechnology industry and began his career in 2013. Freenome connects people with next-generation blood tests for early cancer detection powered by a multiomics platform.

Before joining Freenome, Ennis was a Co-Founder and Advisor at Immudicon. Ennis graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and is working towards his master’s in Biotechnology from John Hopkins University.

 

9. Jeffrey Kolovson
Faire

Jeffrey Kolovson began his professional career over 13 years ago. Today, he is Co-founder and COO of Faire. Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local where they use the power of tech, data and machine learning to connect a thriving community of over 150,000 brands and retailers around the world.

Kolovson first got his start in 2008 as an Analyst at Goldman Sachs. From there, he went on to Evolving Vox, before eventually rising to Operations Lead at Square, his most recent position prior to joining Faire. Kolovson graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Economics and Political Science.

 

10. Jack Groetzinger
SeatGeek

Jack Groetzinger is the Co-Founder and CEO of SeatGeek, first joining the company in 2009. SeatGeek helps the world experience more live events as the leading mobile-focused ticket platform that enables fans to buy and sell tickets. It was built in 2009 as the only mobile ticketing marketplace created with fan experience at the top of mind.

Previously, Groetzinger was a Founder at Scribnia and before that a Founder at Evolving Vox. Groetzinger earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from Dartmouth College.

 

11. Michael Wu
Amber Group

Michael Wu is the Founder & CEO of Amber Group. Amber Group is the gateway to crypto finance where clients can buy and sell their cryptocurrency products, earn yield, manage risk and access liquidity. Wu has over 8 years in the financial industry. He began his career in 2013.

Before joining Amber Group, Wu was a Portfolio Manager at Arete Capital Partners and before that an FX and Rates Trader at Morgan Stanley. Wu graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Economics.

 

12. John Donahoe
Nike

John Donahoe began his professional career over 39 years ago. Today, he is the President and CEO of Nike. At Nike, it’s in their nature to innovate and their mission is to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world.

Donahoe first got his start in 1982 as President and CEO at Bain & Company. From there, he went on to eBay Inc. again servicing as President and CEO. His most recent position prior to joining Nike was with ServiceNow where he served as President, CEO and on the Board of Directors for over four years. He is still actively involved in a number of companies as a chairman or member of the board of directors. Donahoe graduated from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and from Dartmouth College.

 

13. Steve Hafner
KAYAK

Steve Hafner is the CEO & Co-Founder of KAYAK, first joining the company in 2004. At KAYAK, they help millions of travelers around the globe make confident travel decisions.

Previously, Hafner was an EVP of Consumer Travel and founding team member at Orbitz, and before that a Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group. Hafner earned an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Northwestern University and an undergraduate degree in Economics and History from Dartmouth College.

 

14. Jay Bregman
Thimble

Jay Bregman is the Founder and CEO of Thimble. Thimble makes insurance simple, enabling small businesses to succeed on their own terms. Bregman has over 8 years in the financial services industry. He began his career in 2013.

Before joining Thimble, Bregman was a Founder and CEO of Hailo and before that a Founder and CTO of Courier.co.uk. Bregman graduated from The London School of Economics and Political Science with a master's degree in Media and Communications Regulation and Policy and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Philosophy.

 

15. Tom Blaisdell
AlignPact Inc

Tom Blaisdell began his professional career over 36 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of AlignPact Inc. where they partner with mission-driven entrepreneurs on growing sustainable legacy businesses.

Blaisdell first got his start in 1985 as an Environmental Engineer at Acurex. From there, he went on to Intuit, before eventually rising to General Partner at DCM Ventures, his most recent position prior to joining AlignPact Inc. Blaisdell graduated from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth with an MBA and from Stanford University with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.

 

16. Michael Pryor
Trello, Atlassian

Michael Pryor is the Head of Product of Trello, Atlassian, first joining the company in 2017. Trello helps teams move work forward by providing tools for collaboration, managing projects, and reaching new productivity peaks.

Previously, Pryor was a CEO at Trello and before that a Co-Founder at Fog Creek Software. Earlier in his career he worked with Juno as a Software Developer. Pryor earned an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Dartmouth College.

 

17. Russell D'Souza
SeatGeek

Russell D'Souza is a Co-Founder of SeatGeek. Helping the world experience more live events, SeatGeek enables fans to buy and sell tickets. It was built in 2009 as the only mobile ticketing marketplace created with fan experience at the top of mind. D'Souza has over 15 years in the internet industry. He began his career in 2006.

Before joining SeatGeek, D'Souza was an Analyst at Monitor Group and before that a Manager at Evolving Vox. D'Souza graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in History.

 

18. Zach Supalla
Particle

Zach Supalla began his professional career over 14 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Particle. Particle makes tools for engineers and designers to create amazing new experiences through internet-connected hardware.

Supalla first got his start in 2007 as a Business Analyst. From there, he went on to Sales Operations at Groupon, his most recent position prior to joining Particle. Supalla graduated from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management with an MBA and MEM and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Cognitive Science.

 

19. Matt Martin

Matt Martin is the Co-Founder and CEO of Clockwise first joining the company in 2016. Clockwise is making your calendar work for you by transforming days to give uninterrupted blocks of time to focus, think and innovate.

Previously, Martin was an Engineering Manager at SalesforceIQ and before that a VP of Product at LegalReach. Earlier in his career he worked with MNpublius.com as a Founder and Managing Editor. Martin earned a JD in law from University of Pennsylvania Law School and an undergraduate degree in Government from Dartmouth College.

 

20. Amanda Greenberg
Balloon

Amanda Greenberg is the CEO and Co-Founder of Balloon. Balloon unlocks ideas, feedback, and insights from a group in record time by eliminating group dynamics, biases, and fears. Greenberg has over 9 years in the internet industry. She began her career in 2012.

Before joining Balloon, Greenberg was an Associate of Public Health Communications and Policy Practice at The Cadmus Group, Inc. Greenberg graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a MSPH in Environmental Sciences & Engineering and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies.

Byrnes graduated from Cornell University with a MS in Computer Science and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Engineering.

 

22. Karl Siebrecht

Karl Siebrecht is the Co-Founder & CEO of Flexe, first joining the company in 2013. Flexe solves the hardest omni channel logistics problems for the world’s largest retailers and brands.

Conte has over 32 years in the healthcare industry. She began her career in 1989. Before joining Jaguar Animal Health, Conte was a Founder, President, and CEO at Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Conte graduated from Dartmouth College with an MBA and from University of California, San Diego with a master's degree in Physiology/Pharmacology and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry.

 

24. Ed Kania

Ed Kania began his professional career over 38 years ago. Today, he is the Co-Founder, Chairman and Partner Emeritus of Flagship Pioneering. Flagship Pioneering creates breakthroughs in human health and sustainability and builds life sciences companies.

Kania first got his start in 1983 as an Investment Officer at First Capital Corporation of Boston. From there, he went on to Morgan Holland Ventures as an Associate and then General Partner, his most recent position prior to joining Flagship Pioneering. Kania graduated from Harvard Business School with an MBA and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Physics.

 

25. Nick Baum

Brockway graduated from Harvard Business School with an MBA and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Government Modified Economics.

30. Evan Sparks

Earlier in his career he worked with Investor Group Services (IGS) as an Analyst. Rosania graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

33. Tripp Peake
LRVHealth

Tripp Peake began his professional career over 35 years ago. Today, he is the Managing Partner of LRVHealth. LRVHealth is the “Inside Healthcare” venture capital platform, the heart of healthcare transformation.

Tripp Peake first got his start in 1986 as a Co-founder and CEO at Science Park Associates. From there, he went on to Mass Ventures, before eventually rising to Partner at Kestrel Venture Management, his most recent position prior to joining LRVHealth. Peake graduated from Yale School of Management and Dartmouth College.

 

34. Greg Maffei
Liberty Media

Greg Maffei is the President and CEO of Liberty Media, first joining the company in 2005. Liberty Media Corporation owns interests in a broad range of media, communications and entertainment businesses. Those interests are attributed to three tracking stock groups: the Liberty Braves Group, the Liberty Media Group and the Liberty SiriusXM Group.

Previously, Maffei was a CEO at 360networks and before that a CFO at Microsoft. Maffei earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.

 

35. Lew Cirne

Lew Cirne is the Founder and Executive Chairman of New Relic. The world’s best engineering teams rely on New Relic to create more perfect software, helping visualize, analyze, troubleshoot and optimize an entire software stack. Cirne has over 29 years in the software industry. He began his career in 1992.

Before joining New Relic, Cirne was a CTO at CA Technologies and before that a CTO at Wily Technology, Inc. Earlier in his career he worked with Apple Computer as a Senior Software Engineer. Cirne graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

36. Jonathan Schulhof
Footprint Coalition Ventures

Jonathan Schulhof began his professional career over 19 years ago. Today, he is the Managing Partner of Footprint Coalition Ventures. Footprint Coalition Ventures invests in fast-growing companies that use technology to improve humanity's impact on the planet.

Schulhof first got his start in 2002 as a Managing Partner at Global Technology Investments and GTI Capital Group. From there, he went on to Motivate International Inc., before eventually rising to Founder and CEO at LOOM Media, his most recent position prior to joining Footprint Coalition Ventures. Schulhof graduated from Stanford Law School with a JD and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree.

 

37. Andy Aranda

Andy Aranda is the Founder and CEO of Breazy Inc., first joining the company in 2014. Breazy.com is the leading nicotine alternatives marketplace with the widest assortment of products at the lowest prices.

Previously, Aranda was an Analyst at Tudor Investment Corporation and before that an Analyst at Diamondback Capital. Aranda earned an MBA in Finance from University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree in Economics and History from Dartmouth College.

 

38. John Guerci

John Guerci is the Co-Founder of Ocrolus. Ocrolus is delivering highly accurate data verification, enhanced fraud detection and cash-flow analytics to lenders. Their vision is to help financial services companies make high quality decisions in an automated and efficient way with trusted data. Guerci has over 2 years in the financial services industry. He began his career in 2019.

Guerci graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Engineering Science.

 

39. Joshua Stein
Optimism PBC

Joshua Stein began his professional career over 14 years ago. Today, he is the COO and GC of Optimism PBC. Optimism PBC enhances and enshrines fair access to public goods on the internet through development of open source software.

Stein first got his start in 2007 as a Senior Associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart Oliver and Hedges. From there, he went on to Blackwater USA, before eventually rising to CEO at Harbor, Inc., his most recent position prior to joining Optimism PBC. Stein graduated from Stanford Law School with a JD and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Philosophy.

 

40. Sarah Hoit

Sarah Hoit is CEO of Connected Living and Co-Founded the company in 2007 to provide families and communities with a private social network to bridge the “digital divide” for the millions of seniors who have been left out of the conversation. Connected Living provides a “high tech and high touch” way for families to connect, access goods and services and enhance quality of life all across the nation and soon globally. Connected Living has become an “essential service” during COVID for bringing a critical virtual connection that the world has recognized is so critical and currently serves over 400+ Senior Living Communities across the country.

Sarah was previously Founder and CEO of Explore, Inc. Prior to founding Explore, Sarah served as the Director of Business Planning in the White House Office of National Service, and then Deputy Director of AmeriCorps where she was a Senior Official in a national service program. Sarah holds a BA with Honors from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

 

40. Elise Smith
Praxis Labs

Elise Smith is the Co-Founder and CEO of Praxis Labs, first joining the company in 2018. Praxis Labs is making society more equitable by advancing workplace inclusion and belonging.

Previously, Smith was a Senior Analyst at NewSchools Venture Fund. Smith earned an MBA and master's in education from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.

 

41. Louisa Schneider

Louisa Schneider is the Founder and CEO of Rowan. Rowan is delivering piercings, earrings, and more straight to your door. Schneider has over 21 years in the consumer goods industry. She began her career in 2000.

Before joining Rowan, Schneider was a CAO and Head of IR at Alder Hill Management and before that a Fixed Income Research Analyst at JP Morgan. Earlier in her career she worked with Morgan Stanley as an Analyst-Generalist. Schneider graduated from Columbia Business School with an MBA and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Political Science.

 

42. Jake Winebaum
Applied Cognition

Jake Winebaum is the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Applied Cognition. Applied Cognition's mission is to prevent and treat age-related declines in cognitive function through a digital health management platform that enables the remote monitoring of brain health and the personalized delivery of therapeutic treatments.

Winebaum started his professional career in 1982 at Fortune Magazine. From there, he went on to Time, USNews and World report and FamilyFun magazine which he founded and later sold to The Walt Disney Company. After his publishing career, he went on to start and lead several technology and digital health companies prior to Applied Cognition. Winebaum graduated from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in Biology.

 

43. Dean Stephens

Dean Stephens is the Chief Executive Officer of Talix. He first joined the company in 2016 as Chief Executive Officer. Talix delivers NLP powered integrated workflow applications to improve the speed and accuracy of risk adjustment coding.

Previously, Stephens was a Co-founder and Board Member at Vinum Wine Importing and Distributing and before that a CEO at Healthline. 44. Yuxiang Zhou

Yuxiang Zhou is the Co-Founder and CEO of Black Lake Technologies.
