Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Johns Hopkins Alumni in Technology of 2021. Johns Hopkins University opened in 1876 with the inauguration of their first president, Daniel Coit Gilman, where he spoke about their aim of making students “strong, bright, useful, and true.” The awardees highlighted have accomplished exactly that with their advancements in technology. They are leading technology companies focused on changing the trajectory of lives around the world. These companies develop products and solutions in the areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, blockchain, education technology, financial technology, and many other deeply technical areas.

Alumni Bruce Friedrich, the founder of The Good Food Institute, is using creativity and technology to create alternative proteins that are affordable and accessible to all. Others are focused in healthcare, like Sebastian Seiguer and Morad Elmi, the founders of emocha Mobile Health, who have invented systems to engage patients outside the walls of a hospital, improving medication adherence and supporting transitional care management. One thing in common with this year’s awardees is their passion for the betterment of society. Jeffrey Raider began his professional career 15 years ago. Today, he is a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Harry’s Inc. Harry’s Inc. started in 2013 with simple, fairly priced products that delivered an amazing experience to men every day via their Ecommerce platform. Since then, Harry’s expanded to the UK, developed relationships with retailers such as Target and Walmart, expanded their grooming brand into a personal care powerhouse, and launched a women’s brand called Flamingo.

Raider first got his start in 2006 as an Associate at Charlesbank Capital Partners before eventually rising to Senior Associate at Charlesbank Capital Partners, his most recent position prior to founding Harry’s Inc. Raider graduated from University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School with an MBA and from Johns Hopkins University with a masters and undergraduate degree in International Studies.

 

4. Christopher Cheung
Boxed

Christopher Cheung is the Co-Founder of Boxed. Identifying as a technology-first company, Boxed is a provider of essential bulk deliveries to families across the United States. Cheung first founded the company in 2013. Boxed was named one of the best places to work by Crain’s New York Business in 2016. They are headquartered in SoHo and have three fulfillment centers around the country in New Jersey, Nevada, and Texas.

Previously, Cheung was a Director of Game Design at Zynga and before that a Co-Founder at Astro Ape Studios, which was acquired by Zynga. Cheung earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.

 

5. Aristotle Balogh
Airbnb

Aristotle Balogh is the Chief Technology Officer of Airbnb, an online marketplace that connects people who want to rent out their homes with people who are looking for accommodations in that locale. Their mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere and they are focused on creating an end-to-end travel platform that will handle every part of their user's trips.

Balogh was previously the Chief Technology Officer at Yahoo and Google. Prior to Yahoo, Balogh was Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Global Product Design for VeriSign, Inc. Balogh previously held leadership positions at SRA Corporation and Roadnet Technologies. Balogh holds an MSE in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a bachelors in Electrical and Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.

 

6. Yury Yakubchyk
Sprout Therapy

Yury Yakubchyk is the Founder and CEO of Sprout. Sprout leverages technology to deliver a better experience to families, providers, and healthcare payers. Since launching in May 2020, they have become one of the fastest growing digital healthcare companies in the United States, expanding from 8 to over 1,000 team members and from a single city to national coverage. Yakubchyk has 6 years in the health, wellness and fitness industry. He began his career in 2015.

Yakubchyk also previously founded Wing, a modern wireless carrier that works with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, and Life house, a tech-enabled hotel management platform. Yakubchyk graduated from Johns Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree.

Huang graduated from Fordham University School of Law with a JD and from Johns Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree in Economics.

 

13. Alex Zhavoronkov

Alex Zhavoronkov began his professional career 20 years ago. Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Insilico Medicine. Insilico Medicine is an artificial intelligence company headquartered in Hong Kong, with R&D and management resources in the USA, Belgium, Russia, UK, Taiwan, and China sourced through hackathons and competitions.

Zhavoronkov first got his start in 2001 as a Product Marketing Engineer at PMC-Sierra, Inc. From there, he went on to ATI Technologies, before eventually founding The International Aging Research Portfolio, his most recent role prior to founding Insilico Medicine. Zhavoronkov graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University with a PhD in Physics, from Johns Hopkins University with a master of science in Biotechnology and from Queen's University with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

 

14. Ethan D. Leder

Ethan D. Leder is the Founding Partner and Executive of Precision Medicine Group. He first founded the company in 2012. Previously, Leder was a Founding Partner and Executive at United Biosource Corporation and before that a Founding Partner and Executive at US Bioservices. Earlier in his career he founded Healthcare Financial Partners. Leder earned a JD in law from Georgetown University Law Center and an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics from Johns Hopkins University.

He began his career in 2004.

Before founding Constellation Research, Wang was a founding partner at Altimeter Group and before that a Vice President at Forrester Research. Earlier in his career he worked with PeopleSoft as a Senior Product Manager. Wang graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a masters in Health Finance and Management and from Johns Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences and Public Health.

 

16. Adegoke Olubusi

Adegoke Olubusi began his professional career 10 years ago. Today, he is the Co-founder and CEO of Helium Health. Helium Health is the largest provider of full-service technology solutions for all healthcare stakeholders in emerging markets. Their foundation of which is their SaaS based electronic medical records/hospital management information system

Olubusi first got his start in 2011 as a Technology Analyst at Goldman Sachs. From there, he went on to PayPal, before eventually founding KingsChat, his most recent position prior to founding Helium Health. Olubusi graduated from Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering with an MS in Engineering and Industrial Management and from Morgan State University with an undergraduate degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering.

 

17. Robert Mittendorff

Robert Mittendorff is the General Partner and Head of Healthcare of B Capital Group. He first joined the company in 2021. B Capital invests in emerging technology companies transforming large traditional industries across borders and geographies.

Previously, Rose was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company and before that an Associate of Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank. 27. Donald Brown

Before joining LifeOmic, Brown was a CEO at Genesys Interactive Intelligence and before that a CEO at Software Artistry. Brown graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine with an MD, from Johns Hopkins University with an MS in Biotechnology, from Indiana University Bloomington with an MS in Computer Science and from Indiana University Bloomington with an undergraduate degree in Physics.

Zhifei Li is the CEO and Founder of Mobvoi. Mobvoi aims to push the boundaries of next generation human-machine interaction with AI technology. Mobvoi has developed its own Chinese voice technologies in the fields of voice recognition, natural language processing, and vertical search. Li has 21 years in the internet industry. He began his career in 2000.

Before founding Mobvoi, Li was a Research Scientist at Google and before that a Project Manager at China MobileSoft. Li graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a PhD.

 

38. Girish Rishi

Justin Kamm is the Co-Founder of Fyncr. He first founded the company in 2020. Fyncr is a platform that lets users manage all of their credit card bills in one place, enabling them to repay from any account to earn rewards across multiple brands of their choice.

Previously, Kamm was a Chief Operating Officer and Partner at Crown Predator Holdings and before that a Chief Operating Officer and Board Member at AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. Kamm earned an MS from the University of Miami and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
