Alumni Spotlight is pleased to announce The Top 100 Investors for 2022. These individuals play a vital role in the growth of the companies in which they have invested. Not only do they come with financial backing, these individuals have expertise that makes businesses successful long after they leave. Their critical thinking, market knowledge, and patience provide a foundation for success. The awardees span nearly all industries, including consumer goods, information technology, non-profits, healthcare, and more. While these individuals differ in the strategies and philosophies they apply to their endeavors, they remain consistent in their ability to beat the market.

Awardees include Gautam Malhotra, an Investor in Noosh, who is supporting the world’s leading independent marketing execution software company that’s helping bring campaigns to life; Riyanka Ganguly, an Investor at Blackstone, who uses her industry knowledge and experience to create a positive economic impact and long-term value for investors, companies, and community; and David Mort, an early-stage investor focused on entrepreneurs building the new financial economy, who leads Propel Venture Partners, the VC firm he co-founded in 2016.

5. Riyanka Ganguly

Riyanka Ganguly began her professional career nearly 7 years ago. Today, she is an Investor at Blackstone. Blackstone is the world’s largest alternative asset manager. They seek to create positive economic impact and long-term value for their investors, the companies they invest in, and the communities in which they work. They do this by using extraordinary people and flexible capital to help companies solve problems. Its $731 billion in assets under management include investment vehicles focused on private equity, real estate, public debt and equity, infrastructure, life sciences, growth equity, opportunistic, non-investment grade credit, real assets and secondary funds, all on a global basis.

Ganguly first got her start in 2015 with founding PASH Center (Peer Advocacy for Sexual Health) where she served as the president before eventually moving to becoming an overseas investment and business development officer at ByteDance, her most recent position prior to joining Blackstone. Ganguly graduated from Tsinghua University with a master’s degree in global affairs and from Duke University with an undergraduate degree in political science.

 

12. Ruminder Dhillon

Emory University

Ruminder (Romi) Dhillon began his career in venture capital 13 years ago. Today, he is the CEO and Co-Founder of the Sonoran Founders Fund in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to that, he served as the CEO at Arizona Founders Fund, which was ranked as Arizona's most active investor in 2020 by CBInsights. They are leaders in providing high-quality, founder-focused capital in Arizona and the Greater Sonoran Region.

Dhillon first got his start in 2009 as an associate at vSpring Capital & Kickstart Seed Fund in Utah. From there, he went to Arizona to found Arizona Founders Fund in 2016, a seed investor dedicated to Arizona startups. He graduated from Emory University with an undergraduate degree, from Columbia University with a master’s degree, and from Thunderbird School of Global Management with an MBA.

 

14. David Mort

David Mort is an early-stage investor focused on entrepreneurs building the new financial economy. He is a General Partner at Propel Venture Partners, a firm he co-founded in 2016. As part of Propel, Mort is an investor in Coinbase, Neon, SumUp, DocuSign, Hippo, Guideline, TrustLayer, Nomad Global, and 20+ FinTech companies. Mort has nearly 11 years of experience. He began his career in 2011.

Before founding Propel Venture Partners, Mort was an analyst at BBVA Ventures. Earlier in his career he worked with SVB Financial Group as an associate. Mort graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with an undergraduate degree in finance, investment, banking, management and human resources.

 

20. Jack Mathew

Jack Mathew is an Angel Investor at The Carlyle Group. He first joined the company in 2017. Carlyle is a global investment firm with $301 billion of assets under management. Founded in 1987 in Washington, DC, Carlyle has grown into one of the world’s largest and most successful global investment firms, with nearly 1,850 people operating in 26 offices across five continents.

Earlier in his career, Mathew worked with Microsoft as a software engineer. He earned an MBA in innovation and entrepreneurship from PPA Business School and an undergraduate degree in business administration and management from the University of California - Los Angeles.

 

24. Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes is the Founding Partner of Chasing Rainbows, an early-stage investment fund specifically aimed at creating more equality in startup funding by investing in founders who come from underrepresented backgrounds - particularly those from the LGBTQ+ community. Ben previously founded and ran the virtual networking platform SocialTable, with customers on all 7 continents. Using his own experience as an LGBTQ+ founder of color, he has been an active angel investor in companies led by underrepresented founders and has fostered a number through to their exit or next investment phase.

He was a mentor at the Australian Landing Pad in San Francisco, assisting Australian founders who take their start-ups and scale-ups global. Ben has an Executive MBA, attended UC Berkeley’s Venture Capital Program and was selected to be part of both the StartOut Growth Lab, a start-up incubator located in San Francisco, and RBL1, based in Austin. In 2020 he was asked to address the UN General Assembly for their Leaders on Purpose Summit. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, he worked at Oracle and Salesforce. Ben Stokes grew up on a farm on the North-West Coast of Tasmania after being adopted from an orphanage in Sri Lanka, by a loving Tasmanian family. Ben's mission is to help create a world that's built on radical inclusivity where diversity of knowledge and experience is celebrated. It is the cornerstone for the vision of his fund, Chasing Rainbows. Stokes graduated from Quantic School of Business and Technology with an MBA, from James Cook University with a master’s degree in tropical medicine and public health, and from Southern Cross University with an undergraduate degree in law.

 

33. David Kellenberger

Grimsted graduated from Emory University - Goizueta Business School with an MBA and from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in accounting and business management.

46. Raju Rishi

He is a passionate ecosystem builder, inspiring brand storyteller, collaborative board member, invested coach, and thoughtful participatory-centric service designer. Previously, Wang was a CTO at The Mighty and before that, a CTO at Narrativ. Earlier in his career he worked with UBS Investment Bank in bank operations. Wang earned an undergraduate degree in electrical computer engineering and computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.

 

71. Andrew Riesenfeld

Yang is an Alumni Regent for Northwestern University and has guest-lectured for various Northwestern classes and served as an advisor for the Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Northwestern.
